The New Kōwhai Tent Has Arrived

After more than a year of designing, planning, building, and fine tuning every detail, the brand new Kōwhai Tent is finally open and we couldn’t be happier to share it with you.

The Kōwhai Tent has been completely reimagined to bring together everything guests have loved about Wild Canvas, with an even more refined and thoughtful design.

A Space to Slow Down and Reconnect

The new Kōwhai Tent was designed with couples in mind. A peaceful, private escape surrounded by native bush and open farmland. Inside, you’ll find newly polished concrete floors, a new indoor fireplace, and insulated windows that frame the views while keeping the space warm and quiet. The freshly designed bathroom features a modern shower and handcrafted vanity, combining comfort and simplicity in a way that feels effortless.

Every finish has been chosen to create a cosy, moody, and intimate atmosphere, from the soft lighting and natural textiles to the landscape design that connects the tent to the outdoors. Whether you’re soaking in the outdoor bath, sharing a meal under the stars, or curling up by the fire, the new Kōwhai Tent is a place to slow down and savour the moment.

Handcrafted with Heart

Every part of this rebuild was a labour of love. The new tent was built with a stainless steel frame for longevity, replacing the original powder coated design that served us faithfully for seven years. Our landscape designer Calla Landscapes reimagined the surrounding area, creating a sense of flow between indoors and out, while still keeping that signature Wild Canvas warmth and charm.

We’ve kept the things guests love most, the peace, the privacy, and the feeling of being completely away from it all, and added thoughtful upgrades to make each stay even more special.
