When we first opened Wild Canvas, our dream was simple: to share the beauty of New Zealand by creating a place where people could slow down, reconnect, and truly appreciate the landscape around them. We wanted to build a space where guests could feel deeply connected to nature while still being pampered with thoughtful design, warmth, and comfort. A place where precious memories with loved ones could be made, because those moments are ultimately what matter most.
Earlier this year, we were honoured to have that vision recognised with one of New Zealand's highest tourism accolades: Qualmark 5-Star – Glamping and Qualmark Gold Sustainable Tourism Business Award.
And today, almost a full year later, we are still proudly New Zealand’s first and only 5-star glamping destination.
What makes a glamping site 5-star?
Qualmark’s criteria for glamping use the same rigorous standards applied to top lodges and premium hospitality providers. That means everything from design and construction to safety, sustainability, guest experience, and cleanliness, must meet luxury-level expectations.
For us, this includes:
Two architecturally designed safari tents perched on private hilltops
Lodge style interiors with boutique amenities
Private outdoor baths, hot tubs, and panoramic views
Gold standard sustainability practices
Meticulous care, maintenance, and hosting
A level of privacy and tranquillity that’s hard to find anywhere else
Every detail is intentional. Every stay should feel effortless, restorative, and unforgettable.
Why this award matters
There are many beautiful glamping sites across New Zealand, but to date, no others have reached 5-star glamping status through Qualmark’s assessment programme. The star rating is not about luxury alone; it’s about continual excellence, sustainability, and the systems behind the scenes that ensure guests have an exceptional experience every time.
Being the only operator to achieve this in New Zealand is something we are incredibly proud of.
